Areas of Practice

A Speech Pathologist can

assist in the assessment and treatment of:

  • Comprehension - following instructions, understanding questions and semantics

  • Expressive language - vocabulary, sentence structure, grammar and story telling

  • Speech - articulation of sounds, fluency

  • Pre literacy skills e.g. identifying sounds and letters, rhyming

Assessment

Assessment sessions can occur over one or more sessions depending on your child’s needs. Sessions typically run for 30-60 minutes and a report can be provided, if required. Before attending an assessment, you will be first asked to fill out a case history questionnaire. Depending on your child’s age and needs, assessment may take a variety of forms including formal and informal assessment, language sample analysis and/or observations. After the assessment, findings will be discussed and recommendations for therapy will be provided.

Therapy

Therapy goals will be developed based on assessment findings and concerns raised by the parents. Goals will be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure your child is making progress. Therapy sessions are typically 30-45 minutes on either a weekly or fortnightly basis, depending on your child’s age and level of ability.

Therapy sessions are mainly play based and I will aim to incorporate your child’s likes and interests into the sessions so that they are engaging and fun.
